The Vaqueros came with the Conquistadors to the American West four centuries ago. They brought their horsemanship skills and ranching know-how with them. Spain’s rich tradition of horsemanship was developed into the vaquero horse used for handling cattle, branding, roundups and cattle drives. All these skills used in American ranching today.
The Vaquero Series pays tribute to the Spanish influence on the American West. The series takes you back to Spain and Mexico where the skills were developed, and to all sectors of the American West where each region developed its own interpretation. The first Spanish settlement was Santa Fe in 1600. Later, in 1769 the Spaniards colonized California. From these two points, the Vaquero culture spread throughout the West and all the way to Hawaii. But each area developed a style uniquely its own. This Series takes you down the historical road, but not with dusty old photos. Instead, you meet working cowboys who have inherited this rich history and use it in their working lives every day. This is a colorful, entertaining series featuring real cowboys and cowgirls, underscored by the music of genuine cowboy singers and musicians who have spent many long hours in the saddle.
The six-part series gives you nine hours, not just of entertainment, but of solid useful information. You’ll you want to watch it over and over again. The Series: Tapadero (the Californio), The Remuda (the Buckaroo), Holo Holo Paniolo (The Hawaiian Cowboy), Houlihan (The Northern Range Cowboy), Los Primeros (The First Vaqueros) and Tierra Encantado (The New Mexican Cowboy).
